SUMMARY:Certified Pollinator Advocate Program | Pollinator-Friendly Pest Management
DESCRIPTION:Course Details:\nSometimes the cure can seem worse than the disease. So it is with pesticides for insects\, funguses and invasive exotic weeds. This class provides pointers on defining what is truly a pest and when and how to manage it with the least harm to pollinators. PREVIEW: Insects sometimes viewed as pests\, like wasps\, are among the best pest managers\, and diversity is a gardener’s best friend! \nAdditional Info: \n“Pollinator-Friendly Pest Management” on August 12 is part of the Certified Pollinator Advocate Program launched in January 2024 by the Botanical Gardens of Asheville and Bee City USA Asheville. The BGA and BCU-AVL will jointly offer this series of 12 monthly classes covering pollination ecology topics and leading to certification as a Pollinator Advocate. \nAll 12 classes will be offered in 2024\, and repeated in 2025 so individuals may complete the certification and become a pollinator advocate over 2 years. To become a “C.P.A.” individuals will complete 12 classes\, plus complete 2 volunteer opportunities with Bee City USA-Asheville. Learn more and register for individual courses or the entire series* at ashevillebotanicalgardens.org/become-a-certified-pollinator-advocate/. \n*Individual courses are $25\, the entire series of 12 courses is $200 for members of The Botanical Gardens and $250 for non-members.

SUMMARY:Pollinator-Friendly Pest Management
DESCRIPTION:In this class\, participants will learn about the pollinators\, predators\, prey\, and pests found in the environment and methods to work with the ecosystem rather than against it. Chemicals should never be needed when proper Integrated Pest Management\, or IPM\, is used. Participants will explore the necessary steps to create a Pollinator-Friendly IPM plan that is perfect for their space and focuses on cultural\, mechanical\, and biological methods rather than chemical methods\, even organic ones.
